Floating Market, Thailand

A couple of hours away from Bangkok is the famous Floating Market. This market is based around the canal Khlong Chak Phra, where the vendors sell their handicrafts, food, fruits, umbrellas, hats, jewelery or anything else you can think of from their boats. Historically this was the way of life of the Thai's, but at present time this is just kept as a tourist attraction, where you either take a boatride on the canal or walk on the sides of it while making your way through the hordes of Farang (Thai for foreigner). Truth is it's very touristy, but still fun.

The two photographers Lina and JC were more than happy to fire away with their cameras at everything around us, because there is so much going on. To see how easily they manouver their little boats, stop and chat with eachother or try to sell something extremely overprized to the unknowing white man, a baby elephant on the street, a young boy with a huuuuge snake on his shoulders; ready to throw it over to anyone who's paying (as you see from the pic's JC did), a man carving fabulous flowers out of soap, a woman offering you fresh mango, the colours, the smells... We had fun!

After walking around for a while we got to go on a boatride in the canals in the village around and it's almost like Venice! Almost. ;) The people really live their lives around the water here and we we're practically in their backyards, seeing how they lived. We passed nearly a million mango trees with their still green fruits hanging out over the canal and saw another side of Thailand. Beautiful.

As a final we went to a snake show, which to me was horrifying. The way the snakes are treated, as much as I dislike them, was terrible... And yet we couldn't help but being thrilled! It's unbeliavable what they do with these dangerous creatures. The worst was when one guy caught 3 snakes... One in each hand and then the last with his mouth. Crazy Thai and crazy Farang who pay to watch it!

The above mentioned snake... Sssssscary!

The Thai smile!

We (read Josefin) were happy to get out of there!
