Paris, France

The name Paris derives from that of its earliest inhabitants, the Gaulish tribe known as the Parisii. The city was called Lutetia, during the Roman era of the 1st to the 6th century, but during the reign of Julian the Apostate (360–363), the city was renamed Paris. It is believed that the name of the Parisii tribe comes from the Celtic Gallic word parisio meaning "the working people".
The population of Paris is about 2,138,600 people in the walls and a metropolitan population of 12,100,000.

Thanks to Marick (my Aunt), we did this excursion on the Seine in a "Fly Boat"to see Paris from an other angle. Since the Seine is centrally situated in Paris, a boat tour covers a great deal of the city. Both the Left Bank (Rive Gauche) and the Right Bank (Rive Droite) are visible from the boat. We could see, among other sites, the Eiffel Tower; Notre-Dame Cathedral; the Alexander III Bridge, the Pont Neuf; the Orsay Museum, the Louvre Museum, and les Invalides, Napoleon's burial site.

The Eiffel Tower (nickname the Iron Lady) has been built as the entrance arch to the 1889 World's Fair. It has become both a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The tower is the tallest building in Paris and the most-visited paid monument in the world; millions of people ascend it every year. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower.

Montmartre is a hill (La butte Montmartre) which is 130 metres high, giving its name to the surrounding district, in the north of Paris. It's primarily known for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré Cœur and all the artists painting on the "place du tertre". The famous Movie Amelie Poulain has been filmed in Montmartre, at the Cafe "Les 2 Moulins", in Rue Lepic. As good tourists we are, we had to go there for a 4,5Euros coffee... Done!
