Annapurna is a section of the Himalayas in north-central Nepal that includes 8,091m Annapurna I, 13 additional peaks over 7,000m and 16 more over 6,000m.
We only made the way up from Nayapul (1000m) to the Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) and back down in 6days. We walked 80km on a bird flight but without counting all these bloody stairs!!!!!!
Our team was composed of 3 very good friends! Florent, alias Superman running up and down the mountains, Josefin and me (JC) absolutely unfit and fighting to walk up the stairs and avoiding the heart attack!
After the 1st awful night with the hundreds of bedbugs in Nayapul, and very big bags on our shoulders (and under the eyes...) we left all happy just seeing the silhouettes of the Himmalayas sommits in front of us. That was the beginning of our long trip through the beautiful valleys and mountains of the Annapurna's chain.
The further we were walking, our legs were heavier and it was also a bit harder to breathe, but nothing bad either. We had few headaches once arrived on the lodges, but they were gone after a good night sleep.
Ahah I forgot about the showers... As long as we were on a budget, we couldn't really afford to pay for hot showers so, cold did it... and cold is the word! It was basically the snow, right after melting, down in the shower! It was so cold that we even wondered how could it flow?
The budget was also so low that we decided to buy some cup noodles to bring up the mountain, this way, we could just add some boiled water from the river and our lunch was ready! Now I have to say that I don't want to hear about cup noodles anymore before a little while!
We were all so proud of having done such a wonderful trip, and it was a very big physical and mental challenge! All the beautiful places we saw... It was truly incredible to be in this environment, far away from all cars, computers and telephones, in the middle of the Himalayas. We all definetely want to come back to Nepal to do some more trekking and the next time, probably the Everest!!
This is an experience that I would recommend everybody to do!
Victory Snickers! She deserved it! :)
Porters... this is a really hard job! Some young people like the one you can see on this picture (white top and long hair) is walking easily, quiet stoned because of the marijuana growing everywhere in Nepal and didn't want to bother carrying his bag. Instead, him and one of his friend decided to hire a porter to carry both of their bags because they're too lazy to even carry one, does that make any sense? We felt so bad for these poor guys walking up and down the mountains being paid nothing and doing the donkey for these people too lazy to go up there with their bags... Ok, you'll tell us "at least, they give Nepalis work and money"... Ok, so if you want to make them work, hire one porter per bag! not one porter for 2 or 3 bags when they don't even want to carry one! In europe we have laws for not carrying more than 35kgs, here they walk with up to 70kgs on their back... They are human, not donkeys!
Happy Birthday Florent! Blowing his matches, Flo turned 24 years old on the Annapurna treks, and even ate Yak cheese for his Birthday dinner! Elle est pas belle la vie? :)
