Great Holidays in Caye Caulker, Belize. A very little Island, very relaxed. People are walking barefeet, topless, streets made out of sand, almost no car on the Island... you are in paradise! We spent most of our time at the split, drinking cocktails with the feet in the water looking at the sunset or the wonderful view, eating the local food (which is not THAT great but it changes from the tacos!) and in the water, diving with turtles, amazing colorful fish, sharks etc... Walking around is pretty cool too and the island is very charming. People are welcoming and like partying. We've been invited to a Birthday Party in a Private bar, door closed and french liquor tasting! Already want to go back!
Caye Caulker is a small limestone coral island off the coast of Belize in the Caribbean Sea
measuring about 8.0 km (north to south) by less than 1km (east to west). The town on the island is known by the name
Caye Caulker Village. Caye Caulker is thought to have been inhabited for hundreds of years,
however the recent population levels didn't start until the Caste war of Yucatan in 1847, when many mestizos of mixed Maya and Spanish descent fled the massacres taking place across the Yucatan.
The structure of government is based on the British parliamentary system, and the legal system is modelled on the Common Law of England. The head of state is Elizabeth II, Queen of Belize. Since the Queen resides in the United Kingdom, she is represented in Belize by the Governor-General.
The currency is the Belize Dollar (1BZD = 1USD) and the Queen Elizabeth II is still on all their bills.
